“Is There Life in Health Care Reform?”  Most people think not. Even with Obama care in effect currently, there technically still is no reform. Elizabeth Drew’s article is basically about the back and forth of getting one simple bill passed. Democrats in the Senate and House wanted the new health care reform bill in 2010 to be passed in September. Republicans believed the longer the bill is delayed, the weaker it becomes. The Republicans real goal was to kill the bill. The Senate finally passed a different health care bill months later on Christmas Eve.

The author starts out by saying “In politics, as in life, there’s often a very fine line between a fluke and an earthquake. They can even be mistaken for each other.” I liked this sentence I found it to be quite comical and very true. What politicians think is a little mistake is something a lot bigger that does a lot more damage than they actually think. I found it quite interesting that Congress “made it difficult or even impossible for women who received federal help to purchase abortion coverage with own funds.” So a woman who was receiving federal government aid couldn’t pay for her own abortion with “her own money.” Basically the government was paying for her abortion. Another thing I found interesting as well, was that if Massachusetts was in play to pass the new health care reform bill, Congress would have worked through Christmas break and might well have been done before the elections. I would rate this article an 8 out of 10. I found it quite interesting to read the back and forth of politics.
